My Journey

Bye-bye Baby Weight

I am FAT! I am unattractive! I am not worth this! I cannot believe I gained 50lbs! I cannot believe I ate that….! I have said all of these things to myself before my weight loss journey started. I have thought many of them recently. Life after a baby is not always bliss. Don’t get me wrong I am head over heels in love with my gorgeous new daughter Magnolia. I could spend all day just taking in every little dimple of her chubby little face.

Mommy & Magnolia

But the reality of a post baby body is a jagged pill to swallow. As a fitness & health coach this jagged pill might as well be a shard of glass.  The saggy squishy belly, the reduced muscle mass, fatigue from sleep deprivation and unending hunger from breastfeeding.  The pressure to bounce back is tough on woman, it amplified tenfold when you have others looking to you for fitness and weight loss advice and support.

7 weeks postpartum

I had to do a long look in the mirror and remember that I have done this transformation before I can and WILL do it again.  My 38 year old body will not respond the same way my 34 year old body did and I NEED to be ok with that. If I am going to be the best coach for other Mommas going through this I need to do this my way and remember that I am worth every bit of it. By showing up every day I will feel better about my body. By pressing play on my workouts every day I will find my fittest self again. By feeding my body with food rather than fueling my emotions with calories I will drop the 50lbs! Most of all I am VERY much loved by my family and friends, every part of me….even my squishy momma belly.

12 weeks postpartum. 25lbs down & 25 to go!!

Shake-a-WHAT?!?

Why the heck do I drink Shakeology every day?!?

PERFECT (1)

I started drinking Shakeology when I was desperate to drop weight and get healthy after my second pregnancy. I knew I had to do something different, I had to take the healthy path, not the easy crash diet path. I had to change my approach, it was no longer just about me, I had two daughters I needed to care for.

After an entire adulthood being overweight I had to change my mindset and focus on my healthy not just the number on the scale. I started drinking shakeolology and after the first week I was hooked. It helped me kick my wicked carb cravings and gave me amazing energy that I never knew you could get from healthy foods.2013-09-21 07.54.50.jpg

But the biggest change was what it did on the inside. I battled tummy issues for more than 20 years. Constant bloating, upset stomach, acid reflux, constipation…seriously I sounded like a side effects at the end of a pharmaceutical commercial. Within the the first month of drinking it I was no longer chasing every meal with tums or mylanta. This was AMAZING!!!! I was suddenly free from fear of eating the wrong thing! I didn’t have to fear every that every meal out at a restaurant would have me running to the bathroom! It helped me repair my gut and helped me start to reverse years of bad eating. I no longer had to guess if something was healthy for me, I knew that this was the healthiest meal I could get each day.

Countdown to Cancun

I am headed to the Moon Palace Resort in Cancun for an all inclusive vacation from Team Beachbody that I earned through my work last year helping others get fit.  I am over the top excited but just last week it really sunk in. HOLY CRAP!!  You will have to wear a swimsuit, A LOT!!  With just 28 days to touchdown in Cancun I embarked on the Countdown to Competition plan from 21 Day Fix Extreme.

cancun

I was honestly hoping to shed some bloat and trim up a little to squeeze into a one piece.  But after just 7 days, no kidding 7 days!!!  I am thinking a bikini just might be in the cards for me.

The plan isn’t easy, it requires some major discipline and planning.  But if there is anything that I excel at it is planning and execution, especially when it comes to food.  I am a foodie at heart and I love being creative and planning out my meals. So this fit perfectly with my lifestyle, plus the hubby is currently deployed so I wouldn’t be needing to prepare a separate meal to support his 6’4″ body as well.

So what am I eating?  Here is a quick rundown of my day….yes I am eating every 2hrs (I have to set a timer on my phone to remind me to eat)

Breakfast:  8 egg whites with Pepper, onions, and mushrooms & salt free seasoning

Snack: Isopure Protein

Lunch: Spinach salad with assorted veggies and grilled chicken topped with vinegar and coconut oil, Baked Sweet potato

Snack: Shakeology with Almond Butter blended with ice and water

Dinner:  Baked Fish (Cod, Salmon, or Tilapia) and steamed veggies & salt free seasoning

Snack: 2 hard boiled eggs

At least 1 gallon of water throughout the day

Not glamorous or fancy but it is really doing the job. I am alternating my days with two basic meal structures so I don’t get too bored with my food.  But what is great is I have prepared all my food for the week on Sunday and have it ready to go so I don’t have any excuses to reach for something not on the plan.  I have all my veggies, and protein portioned out into little baggies so I can just grab and go.

Why am I not talking about my crazy intense workouts or how many calories I am burning?  Now you may have heard that abs are made in the kitchen and this is so true!!  You cannot neglect your attention to your nutrition and expect results.  Nutrition accounts for 80% of your transformation and your fitness or workouts are only 20%   But if you are wondering I am doing 30 minute workouts from 21 Day Fix Extreme and walking in the afternoons with my daughters.  The latter is really more of a relaxation for me, I get to listen to my audio books and just push a stroller.

So check out my first 7 day results!

I am over the top excited to see what I can accomplish in the next couple weeks as we prep for our vacation to Cancun!!  I may just be able to rock a bikini without feeling bloated and too Fat Girl but more Fit Momma!

I Maxed Out!

Yay!! It showed up and we couldn’t wait. My hubby and I popped in the Cardio Challenge today.  It is essentially the fitness challenge or fitness test to check out your starting point and track your progress.

Verdict: this is going to get me to goal quicker than I thought! It was fun and fast!  I really love how the sequences are set up.  I also really appreciated the on screen modifier view.  I have some bad knees and the lower impact (not lower intesnity) options was a must. It was awesome!!  I have honestly never sweat so much in just 30 minutes!  From the start to when my heart rate got back down to in resting range I had burned through 495 calories.  Crazy right?!

I think the part that impressed me the most was the nutrition plan that comes with it.  It is awesome and gives you great guides for eating in Fast Food chains, on the go, and has an easy to follow plan.  I am LOVING Insanity Max :30.  Today’s test was brutal but I am super excited to push forward with my accountability group.

Still time to snag a spot in our accountability group starting Jan 5th

Ultimate Reset week 2 review

Week 2 or the Detox week was so far the best! The food continues to be amazing and a great mix of variety and fresh flavors. Some of my favorites from the week were the Corn & Edamame succotash, and the Hearty Miso Soup.

My week 2 final weight loss is 11lbs!! My hubby is at 15lbs!! I am still in complete shock! I guess I really had some stored up toxins and pollutants in my system. I am even more shocked that I have been eating a lot of  food and dropping the weight. I have scheduled to get a bod pod body fat percentage measure done after I completed week 3. I am planning to start a routine of two a days to gain some muscle mass and I want to make sure I am properly fueling my system for muscle making.

I was worried that the detox week was going to be painful. I have heard from other challengers that they get sick or feel rundown during week 2 because that is when the greatest flush of toxin happens. I feel blessed that I didnt experience any of that.  I noticed a boost in my energy though, I actually had a surge of energy every day and sometimes felt it difficult to fall asleep. I was also energized every morning, which is unheard of for me, I am not a morning. person.

Excited for this week because this is Restore week where we are pumping all the good vitamins and prebiotics back into our system. And the awesome food continues!

Day 5 Ultimate Reset Review

Day 5 has been a challenge,  not going to lie.  But not because of the reset, I actually feel amazing.  The food continues to be phenomenal. The quinoa salad was BOMB! It had been a challenge because I am visiting family and I am being faced with some wickedly awesome unhealthy food choices.

When I am at home I can much more easily controll the temptations,  I simply throw them away. I don’t think my family would appreciate me emptying their cupboards and pantries.

The second major temptation has been caffeine.  I am well aware of my weakness for coffee, and that is not easily avoided in Seattle!  You seriously cannot go 1/2 a mile without seeing a Starbucks,  drive up stand,  or now bikini barista.

The biggest challenge and test of will power will come tomorrow.  I will be baking and decorating cupcakes for my sisters baby shower.  I am a HUGE fan of cupcakes!! If you believe in prayer please pray for me!
